If you are thinking about having eye surgery, there are some things you should know. First of all, not every surgery goes perfectly. This is because nobody is perfect. Second, even if it seems okay right after the surgery, the problem may not show up for years. This may scare you off from getting eye surgery.

One common complication after eye surgery is dry eyes. This occurs after most types of surgeries, such as laser surgery and cataract surgery. Over time, this usually goes away on its own. However, to help reduce the symptoms of dry eyes - like itchy, burning eyes and general discomfort - your doctor will probably give you artificial tears.

There are also long term consequences from eye surgery. Any surgery can change how the body works. For LASIK surgery, there is a low chance of the patient developing glaucoma. This is a problem with the eye that can cause blindness. There is also a very low chance for cataracts, retinal detachment and vision.

Laser eye surgeries, especially LASIK, can have a lot of problems. One problem is called flap complications. This is when the cut out flap during the surgery isn't put back on right or gets infected. This can cause two problems: keraectasia and diffuse lamellar keratitis.

Some common eye surgery complications are listed here. It's not very encouraging, but it's important to be aware of these things before your surgery. This way, you will know how to react if they happen and be able to treat or avoid them.
