The Importance of Physical Activity

Physical activity is important for the health and well-being of people of all ages. Research shows that everyone, young or old, can benefit from regular exercise. Physical activity can improve mobility and function for very old adults. It is a priority for everyone to be physically active because it reduces the risk of chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes.

 

Despite the well known benefits, many adults and children have relatively sedentary lifestyles. This means they engage in no leisure-time physical activity (exercises, sports, physically active hobbies) in a two-week period. A lot of older people lead sedentary lifestyles.

 

Exercise is important for maintaining good health. It is recommended that people do at least 30 minutes of exercise, five days a week. This can be done through moderate activities like walking or swimming, or by doing vigorous exercises for 20 minutes three times a week. Exercising helps keep muscles strong, joints healthy and bones healthy.

 

Exercise is good for mental health, especially for young people. It makes it easier to learn, makes people feel better about themselves and reduces anxiety and stress. Playing sports can help people learn teamwork, self-discipline, sportsmanship, leadership and socialization.

 

Obesity is a problem that is happening all over the United States. To stay healthy, you need to be active and have a good diet. You also need to control how much you eat. Governments and private companies need to work together to get people more active.
