In the summer, the sun will stay up longer and it will be warmer. Many people want to enjoy the warmth of the sun. They might go on a picnic, have a barbeque in a park, or just lie on chairs by a pool.
Children also like to go out and have fun in the sun. They enjoy cycling, roller skating, skate boarding, and just running around.
But hot weather can also be dangerous. Children may not be aware that the heat of the sun can also make them sick. Playing under the scorching heat of the sun can quickly drain your body's fluid through perspiration. When you lose too much fluid, your body's cooling system becomes less efficient. Children especially may suffer from heat exhaustion.
If a child collapses in the heat of the sun, they might have heatstroke. If they are breathing, move them to a cool place and lay them on their back. Remove their clothing and wrap them in a cool and wet sheet, blanket or towel. Turn their head to one side But if he is not breathing, immediately begin CPR protocol and wait for the ambulance to arrive.
If the child is still conscious but pale, weak or dizzy, move him to a cool place, loosen his clothing and lay him on his back. Turn his head to one side and elevate his feet. Feed him with cool salt-and-sugar water. Call for a doctor immediately.
Some children who get heatstroke may complain of stomach cramps or muscle cramps. You can help them by moving them out of the sun and into a cool place. Have them sit down and give them plenty of cool salt-and-sugar water.
He should be okay after he gets some rest. He should drink a lot of water or juice.
It is best for small children to stay indoors when it is very hot outside. If they stay in the heat for too long, they might get heatstroke which can be deadly.
Although summer is a beautiful time of year, it's important to take precautions against the extreme heat of the sun.
