People are making healthier choices when it comes to their food. The fast food industry is trying to make healthier menus, food companies are making so-called health food products, and the world is becoming more health conscious every year.
This is a great thing. Obesity is affecting more and more families. It can be hard to eat healthy because of all the unhealthy food options. There are lots of advertisements and articles for unhealthy food products. People are being tricked into eating unhealthy food that isn't good for them. This makes the weight loss journey and quest for 6-pack.
The easiest way to avoid all of this and stick to a healthier path would be to eat natural foods that have not been altered by humans. This grocery list would include fresh meats, veggies and fruits, raw nuts, and less altered dairy products.
There are three things you should pay attention to when you go to the grocery store so that you can make healthier choices for yourself and your family.
#1: Food Source
This might be a little tricky, but many stores are getting better at providing this information. If you have access to a health food store, you won't have as much trouble. But even Kroger stores are getting better.
Some food companies use hormones and feed processes for their animals that can affect the quality of the meat. This is more common with meat and animal products. Be careful about what you buy, and pay attention to where it is from.
Hormones that are added to animals to make them grow bigger can be absorbed into our bodies once we eat the meat. This can disrupt our hormone balances and bodily processes.
Look for more natural meats that were grass-fed and hormone free. The same goes with sea food; try to find more natural sources and not closed water fish. This meat will not only be healthier, but it will also taste better because it is fresher.
#2: Ingredients
When buying food, pay attention to the ingredients. Often times a food will claim to be healthy because of the calorie amount, but in reality those calories are quite unhealthy.
It is important to think about the number of calories you are eating, but it is also important to think about the quality of the food. Generally, the lower the number of ingredients in a food, the better that food is for you. For example, if you pick up a 100 calorie snack pack, you will see a long list.
If you have less ingredients in your pantry, it will be easier to focus on the quality of each ingredient.
#3: Sodium
Sodium is important for many things, including weight loss, heart health, joint health, and overall wellness. When you don't have enough sodium, it's hard to lose weight and you might feel unhappy.
Some foods have extra sodium in them so that they last longer. For example, canned food often has a lot of sodium in it. That's why it lasts for a long time. Try to eat less than 1500mg of sodium per day. That's about the same as one can of "low sodium" soup.
Reduce your sodium intake for a couple of weeks and see how you feel.
